Student Money Mentors (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates a personal financial education platform. This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. This Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service.
We collect information you provide directly, information generated as you use the Service, and standard technical information transmitted automatically by your device. We only collect the categories described below. For each category we explain what is collected, why, how it is used, where it is stored, how long it is retained, and who it is shared with.
Account and profile information. What: your name and email address when you register, plus optional profile details you add (preferred name, username, profile photo, age, country, timezone, date/time format, occupation, and notification and accessibility preferences). Why: to create and administer your account. How used: to identify you, sign you in, personalize your experience, and apply your preferences. Where stored: the Service’s database and authentication infrastructure. Retention: for as long as your account is active (see “Data Retention” and “Data Deletion”). Shared with: no one, except service providers that host and secure the Service, and as described in “Sharing & Disclosure.”
Financial information you enter. What: income, expenses, budgets and budget categories, savings goals, transactions (including merchant, category, date, notes, and recurring flags), credit cards and their details (issuer, rewards program, fees, limits, balances, APR, and statement/payment dates), and subscriptions you choose to track. Certain fields are sensitive — you are not required to enter them. Why: to power the budgeting, tracking, insights, and educational features you request. How used: to calculate summaries, wellness scores, charts, and personalized educational context. Where stored: the Service’s database. Retention: until you delete the data or your account. Shared with: no one, except as described in “AI Processing” and “Sharing & Disclosure.”
Learning, wellness & gamification data. What: lesson progress and quiz scores, challenge progress, achievements, XP/level/streaks, weekly check-in responses, and your personality quiz result. Retention: until you delete the data or your account. Shared with: no one, except as described in “AI Processing” and “Sharing & Disclosure.”

Why: to provide the money journal feature you choose to use. How used: to store and display your entries, and — only when you enable AI assistance for an entry — to generate reflective prompts or feedback. Where stored: the Service’s database. Retention: until you delete the entry or your account. Shared with: no one, except the AI provider when you enable AI assistance for an entry, as described in “AI Processing.”
Conversations with the Money Mentor AI and AI-generated content. What: messages you exchange with the in-app Money Mentor AI coach, conversation history, and AI-generated weekly check-in summaries and monthly “money story” narratives produced from your data. Why: to provide the AI coaching and summary features you request. How used: to display your conversations, maintain context within a conversation, and show your summaries. Where stored: the Service’s database. Retention: until you delete the conversation or your account. Shared with: the AI provider that generates the responses, as described in “AI Processing.”
Uploaded files. What: transaction receipts you attach, your profile photo, and attachments you submit with support requests. Why: to provide the features you initiate (for example, attaching a receipt to a transaction or a file to a support ticket). How used: to store and display the file in connection with the record it belongs to. Where stored: the platform’s file storage. Retention: until you delete the related record or your account. Shared with: our support team and, where needed to resolve your request, service providers acting on our behalf.
Payment and billing information. What: your Premium membership status and renewal date, and a billing-provider membership identifier. We do not collect or store full card numbers; payment is processed by our billing provider, Whop. Why: to manage your subscription. How used: to enable Premium access, show your plan status, and process renewal or cancellation. Where stored: membership status is stored in the Service’s database; payment details are handled by Whop. Shared with: no one, except service providers that help us operate analytics, as described in “Sharing & Disclosure.”
Technical information. What: standard information transmitted automatically when you use the Service, such as device and browser type, and information that may include IP address, received in service logs. We use the information we collect to:
We do not sell your personal information or User Content.
When you upload or submit content to the Service, that User Content is stored in association with your account. Uploaded files — such as transaction receipts, your profile photo, and support attachments — are stored on the platform’s file infrastructure and may be processed as needed to provide the functionality you request, such as displaying receipts, extracting data you ask us to extract, or providing features tied to the content.
We do not share your information or User Content publicly. We may share information with the following categories of recipients under appropriate confidentiality and processing obligations:
We may also disclose information where required by law, legal process, or a government request, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or enforce our agreements.
We take reasonable measures to protect information using access controls and secure infrastructure. Your records are isolated to your account. No security system is perfect, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your information is stored on the Base44 platform infrastructure that hosts the Service. Structured data — such as your profile, transactions, budgets, goals, credit cards, tracked subscriptions, learning progress, journal entries, AI conversations, AI-generated summaries, notifications, and support requests — is stored in the platform’s database. Uploaded files, such as receipts and support attachments, are stored in the platform’s file storage.
Payment for Premium is handled by our billing provider, Whop, which stores the billing information needed to process your subscription. The AI providers that generate responses receive your prompt and relevant context to produce a response, as described in “AI Processing.”
A summary of the categories of service providers we use is available in our Third-Party / Subprocessor List.
The Service offers AI-assisted features, including the Money Mentor coach, AI-assisted journal entries (when you enable AI assistance for an entry), weekly check-in summaries, monthly money-story narratives, and insights. To generate responses, we send the AI provider your message and a compact summary of relevant context from your account — such as your preferred name and occupation, monthly income and spending, budget and savings-goal summaries, wellness score, recent spending patterns, most recent check-in, and financial personality. We send only what is needed to produce a useful, personalized response.
Your AI conversations are stored in your account so you can revisit them, and they remain associated with your account until you delete the conversation or your account. We use your conversations and data to provide the AI features to you — we do not use your conversations or data to train our own models. Whether an AI provider retains content you submit, or uses it to train its own models, is governed by that provider’s policies, which are outside our control; we encourage you to review the provider’s privacy practices. We configure AI features to request responses rather than training where the provider offers that option.
You can request deletion of your AI conversations at any time by deleting the conversation in the Service or by deleting your account. See “Data Deletion” and “Your Rights” for how to do so.
AI processing of your data occurs only when needed to provide the AI features you choose to use, such as when you send a message to the Money Mentor coach, enable AI assistance for a journal entry, or open a feature that displays an AI-generated summary. We do not process your data with AI for any other purpose.
User data is permanently erased within thirty (30) days after a verified deletion request or account deletion, except where a longer retention period is required by applicable law, fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution, or enforcement of legal rights.
When you delete your account through the Service, we erase your content and data across the Service’s database, including your profile, transactions, budgets, savings goals, credit cards, tracked subscriptions, learning progress, achievements, weekly check-ins, journal entries, AI conversations, AI-generated summaries, notifications, and support requests. A recurring automated process verifies and completes any pending deletion request within the 30-day window.
We may retain a minimal account record (such as your email address) solely for security, fraud prevention, account integrity, and to enforce our rights, to the extent permitted by law. Uploaded files are stored by the platform’s file infrastructure; when you delete your account we remove the records that reference those files and disassociate them from your account, and the underlying file objects are removed as the platform’s file-storage retention permits.
Information deleted from active systems may remain in platform backups for a limited time until the backup retention cycle overwrites it, after which it is no longer recoverable. We do not retain deleted data to restore it to you unless you explicitly request it before deletion is completed.
Subject to applicable law, you may:
U.S. state privacy rights. If you are a resident of a U.S. state with applicable privacy laws, you may have additional rights, which may include the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, the right to correct or delete it, the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information and certain targeted advertising where applicable, and the right not to be subjected to discrimination for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under applicable U.S. state law, so an opt-out is not applicable to our practices. These rights are subject to applicable law and certain exceptions.
To exercise any of these rights, email about@studentmoneymentors.com. We will verify your identity before acting on a request and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We may decline or limit a request where permitted by law — for example, to protect against fraud or where retaining information is legally required.
We retain information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, protect our rights, and prevent abuse. When you delete your account, your data is erased as described in “Data Deletion,” subject to any retention requirements permitted by law.
The Service uses technical storage mechanisms in your browser, such as authentication tokens and local storage, to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and help the Service function properly and securely. We do not knowingly use cookies or similar technologies to track you across other websites for advertising. You can control or delete cookies and similar technologies through your browser settings, but disabling them may limit some features, such as staying signed in. We do not currently provide a separate cookie preference manager; your browser settings govern these technologies.
Your information is stored and processed on the Service’s hosting infrastructure, which may be located in the United States or, through our service providers, in other regions. Our billing provider and AI providers may process information in their own regions. If you access the Service from a region other than where your information is stored, your information will be transferred to and processed in that storage or provider region as described in this Policy.
We may transfer or disclose information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, acquisition, sale of assets, financing, or reorganization. In such a transaction, personal information we hold may be among the assets transferred. Where required by applicable law we will notify you, for example through the Service or a prominent notice, if your personal information is transferred to and becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.
We take reasonable measures to protect information, but in the event of a personal data breach we will notify affected users to the extent required by applicable law, through the Service, by email, or by other appropriate means, and in accordance with the timing required by applicable law.
With your consent or where otherwise permitted, we may send you emails about your account or about the Service. Marketing emails include a functioning unsubscribe mechanism and are otherwise sent in accordance with our Terms.
The Service is intended for users who are old enough to form a legally binding contract under applicable law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us so we can remove it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time and will revise the “Last updated” date when we do. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
