Safety & Reporting Policy

What to report, how reports are handled, limits of AI-generated financial information, and what to do in an immediate safety, security, or financial emergency.

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Student Money Mentors (“Student Money Mentors,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides financial education, budgeting tools, financial insights, calculations, and AI-assisted features intended to help users better understand and manage financial topics.

Because financial information can affect important real-world decisions, Student Money Mentors provides safety, reporting, account-security, and financial-information safeguards intended to help users identify harmful, fraudulent, misleading, or otherwise inappropriate activity.

This Safety & Reporting Policy explains what users should report, how reports may be handled, important limitations of AI-generated financial information, and what users should do when they encounter an immediate safety, security, or financial emergency.

This Policy supplements the Student Money Mentors Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, AI Use & AI Privacy Notice, and other applicable policies.

1.Scope of This Policy

This Policy applies broadly to Student Money Mentors’ current features and interactions, including where applicable:

  • AI coaching and assistance
  • Financial education
  • Calculators
  • Financial projections and estimates
  • Financial insights and recommendations
  • Transaction-entry features
  • Receipt and financial-document processing
  • Statement-upload features
  • Reports and safety tools
  • Account and security features
  • Other current Student Money Mentors features
  • Future features that may introduce additional safety considerations

Feature-specific rules may supplement this Policy when new functionality is introduced.

Student Money Mentors currently does not operate an active user-to-user social or community environment. Accounts and interactions are currently designed around the individual user’s interaction with the application and its AI features.

We may introduce community, social, messaging, or other user-to-user features in the future. If we do, we may publish additional rules addressing the risks and conduct associated with those features.

2.Our Safety Principles

Student Money Mentors aims to provide users with tools that help them:

  • Learn about financial concepts
  • Understand their financial information
  • Organize financial information
  • Explore budgeting options
  • Consider financial scenarios
  • Understand potential tradeoffs
  • Make more informed decisions

Student Money Mentors does not guarantee that:

  • Financial information is accurate
  • AI output is correct
  • Calculations are error-free
  • Projections will occur as estimated
  • Recommendations are appropriate for every user
  • Third-party information is current
  • Financial outcomes will match predictions
  • Another person, organization, or financial service is legitimate
  • The platform will detect every harmful or misleading interaction

Users should independently evaluate important information and exercise reasonable judgment before taking financial action.

For significant financial decisions, users should consider consulting an appropriately qualified professional.

3.What Should Be Reported

Users should report information, AI responses, account activity, or other conduct that they reasonably believe:

  • Violates the Terms of Service or applicable policies
  • Creates a meaningful safety or security concern
  • Contains materially misleading financial information
  • Contains dangerous or inappropriate financial guidance
  • Contains an incorrect calculation that could materially affect a decision
  • Contains a materially misleading projection or recommendation
  • Facilitates fraud or financial abuse
  • Requests sensitive credentials or authentication information
  • Attempts to manipulate or deceive users
  • Appears to involve unauthorized account access
  • Attempts to exploit a security vulnerability
  • Otherwise creates a significant risk of harm

A report made in good faith does not need to be proven correct by the reporting user.

4.Financial Information and AI Accuracy

AI-generated information can be wrong.

Student Money Mentors’ AI may produce:

  • Incorrect calculations
  • Incorrect categorization
  • Incorrect assumptions
  • Faulty projections
  • Incomplete explanations
  • Outdated information
  • Misleading recommendations
  • Incorrect interpretations of user-provided information
  • Incorrect or incomplete claims about financial products or concepts
  • Confident-sounding information that is nevertheless inaccurate

User-provided financial information may also be incomplete, outdated, incorrectly entered, or otherwise inaccurate.

Users should independently evaluate AI output and important financial information before relying on it.

Users are encouraged to report potentially harmful or materially misleading financial guidance, including:

  • Incorrect calculations
  • Incorrect projections
  • Dangerous recommendations
  • Materially misleading financial claims
  • Financial information that appears substantially inaccurate
  • Advice that could reasonably cause significant financial harm

Reporting potentially incorrect information does not guarantee that Student Money Mentors will determine that an error occurred or take a particular action.

5.Financial Projections, Calculations, and Recommendations

Student Money Mentors may provide calculations, estimates, projections, scenarios, and recommendations.

These may include:

  • Budget recommendations
  • Affordability estimates
  • Debt-payoff projections
  • Savings projections
  • Retirement projections
  • Investment-return estimates
  • Tax-related estimates
  • Insurance-related estimates
  • Financial comparisons
  • Spending recommendations
  • Other personalized financial suggestions

These outputs are educational estimates, not guarantees of future financial results.

They may depend on:

  • Information supplied by the user
  • Assumptions selected by the system
  • Estimated rates of return
  • Estimated costs
  • Estimated taxes
  • Estimated inflation
  • Incomplete information
  • Third-party information
  • Mathematical or model assumptions

Actual financial outcomes may differ substantially.

Users should independently verify material calculations, assumptions, rates, terms, and other information before making significant decisions.

6.Professional Advice Is Not Provided

Student Money Mentors and its AI features are not a substitute for a qualified professional.

The application does not act as a:

  • Financial advisor
  • Investment advisor
  • Accountant
  • Tax professional
  • Attorney
  • Insurance professional
  • Credit counselor
  • Other licensed or qualified professional

Information provided through Student Money Mentors is intended for educational and informational purposes.

For significant or high-stakes decisions, users should consider consulting a qualified professional who can evaluate their individual circumstances.

This is particularly important before making decisions involving substantial amounts of money, investments, taxes, debt, insurance, legal obligations, contracts, or other significant financial interests.

7.Do Not Submit Financial Credentials or Secrets

Do not provide financial credentials, authentication secrets, or account-access information to Student Money Mentors’ AI unless a specific feature expressly and securely requires such information.

Student Money Mentors does not need ordinary financial credentials to provide general financial education or budgeting assistance.

Do not submit:

  • Bank account numbers
  • Online-banking usernames
  • Online-banking passwords
  • Debit-card numbers
  • Credit-card numbers
  • Brokerage-account credentials
  • Investment-account passwords
  • Authentication codes
  • One-time passwords
  • Security answers
  • Recovery codes
  • API keys
  • Access tokens
  • Session credentials
  • Private login links
  • Full Social Security numbers
  • Other highly sensitive authentication information

If you accidentally disclose credentials, take appropriate steps to secure the affected account, including changing compromised credentials and contacting the relevant financial institution or service provider.

Student Money Mentors will not ask you to provide your password or authentication code through an AI conversation.

8.Uploaded Files and Financial Documents

Student Money Mentors does not provide a generic “upload any file to the AI” capability.

File processing is feature-specific.

Depending on the feature, users may intentionally provide financial documents such as:

  • Receipt images
  • Receipt PDFs
  • Financial statements
  • Transaction documents
  • Other financial documents supported by a particular upload workflow

For example, a transaction-entry or document-processing feature may use an uploaded receipt for categorization or extraction.

A statement-upload feature may extract transaction information from a statement. The exact processing of a particular upload depends on the feature through which the file is submitted.

Other features may support file_urls or file context only when specifically wired to do so.

Users should not assume that every file stored in or associated with the application is automatically provided to the AI.

Users should also avoid including unnecessary sensitive information in uploaded documents whenever possible.

Before uploading a document, consider whether it contains:

  • Account credentials
  • Passwords
  • Authentication codes
  • Full government identification numbers
  • Unnecessary financial-account information
  • Private information belonging to another person
  • Other sensitive information that is not necessary for the feature

Where practical, users should redact unnecessary sensitive information before uploading a document.

9.Financial Scams, Fraud & Abuse

Do not use Student Money Mentors to facilitate or promote financial abuse.

Prohibited conduct includes:

  • Financial scams
  • Fraudulent schemes
  • Investment scams
  • Lending scams
  • Ponzi schemes
  • Pyramid schemes
  • Fraudulent financial promotions
  • Misleading financial offers
  • Unauthorized solicitation
  • Money laundering
  • Financial crime
  • Requests for passwords or authentication codes
  • Requests for unauthorized account access
  • Manipulative requests for money
  • Coercive financial demands
  • Promises of guaranteed or unrealistic financial returns
  • Deceptive financial claims
  • Other similar financial abuse

Do not use Student Money Mentors to create or facilitate a scheme intended to deceive someone into providing money, financial information, credentials, or account access.

10.Deceptive Financial Fabrication and Manipulation

Do not use Student Money Mentors or its AI features to deceptively fabricate, manipulate, or misrepresent financial information.

This includes creating or altering:

  • Receipts
  • Bank statements
  • Account records
  • Transaction histories
  • Financial evidence
  • Income records
  • Debt records
  • Tax-related records
  • Financial claims
  • Other financial documents or information

Do not use AI-generated or AI-manipulated financial material and present it as authentic when doing so could reasonably deceive another person or organization.

Legitimate educational examples, simulations, hypothetical scenarios, or clearly identified demonstrations may be permitted.

11.AI-Generated Information Is Not Proof

AI output should not automatically be treated as evidence that a financial claim is true.

AI-generated information may contain errors or misunderstand a user’s circumstances.

Users should not rely solely on AI output to determine that:

  • A financial institution acted unlawfully
  • A person committed fraud
  • A financial product is legitimate
  • An investment will produce a particular return
  • A particular tax treatment definitely applies
  • A contract has a particular legal effect
  • A person is financially trustworthy
  • A financial decision is guaranteed to produce a particular outcome

Material claims should be independently verified where appropriate.

12.AI Providers

Student Money Mentors uses multiple AI providers through its AI platform integration.

Current AI processing may involve:

  • Anthropic / Claude
  • Google / Gemini

The specific model or provider used may depend on the feature, configuration, or functionality being used.

AI providers, models, routing arrangements, and technical implementations may change over time.

Additional information about AI processing is provided in the Student Money Mentors AI Use & AI Privacy Notice.

13.Web Search and Internet Information

Where Student Money Mentors enables AI-powered web search, the AI may receive additional context derived from internet search results.

Internet-derived information may be:

  • Incorrect
  • Incomplete
  • Outdated
  • Misleading
  • Taken out of context
  • Based on unreliable sources

Web-search results are not automatically verified merely because they were returned by an AI-enabled search process.

Users should independently evaluate important information and consult authoritative or qualified sources before relying on it for significant financial, legal, tax, investment, insurance, or other professional decisions.

14.Reporting AI Responses

Users should report an AI response when they believe it:

  • Presents materially inaccurate financial information
  • Provides dangerous financial guidance
  • Contains a materially incorrect calculation
  • Produces a misleading projection
  • Makes a materially misleading recommendation
  • Facilitates fraud or financial abuse
  • Requests inappropriate credentials or secrets
  • Creates a significant safety or security concern
  • Otherwise violates applicable Student Money Mentors policies

A report should provide enough information to help Student Money Mentors understand the concern.

For example:

“This projection appears to use an incorrect interest rate and could materially change the user’s estimated debt payoff date.”

is generally more useful than:

“This is wrong.”

Do not include unnecessary sensitive financial information in a report.

15.Review of Reported AI Interactions

When an AI interaction is reported, Student Money Mentors may review the reported interaction and reasonably necessary surrounding context.

Authorized personnel may review such information when reasonably necessary for:

  • Safety investigations
  • Investigation of potentially harmful financial guidance
  • Quality control
  • AI-system evaluation
  • Enforcement
  • Security investigations
  • Fraud prevention
  • Protection of users
  • Legal compliance
  • Responding to valid legal requests

Student Money Mentors does not represent that authorized personnel routinely read users’ private AI conversations.

Review may occur when reasonably necessary for the purposes described above.

16.Confidentiality of Reports

Student Money Mentors will take reasonable measures to limit unnecessary disclosure of information contained in reports.

However, report information may be accessed by authorized personnel, service providers, moderators, security personnel, or other authorized parties when reasonably necessary to:

  • Investigate the report
  • Protect users
  • Maintain platform security
  • Enforce platform rules
  • Improve safety or quality
  • Prevent fraud or abuse
  • Comply with applicable law
  • Respond to valid legal requests

We cannot guarantee absolute confidentiality or anonymity of a report.

17.Emergency Situations

Student Money Mentors is not an emergency response service, crisis service, medical provider, financial emergency service, or law-enforcement service.

Do not wait for Student Money Mentors or its AI to respond when immediate action is necessary to protect someone’s health, safety, property, finances, or account security.

Depending on the situation, users should contact an appropriate:

  • Emergency service
  • Financial institution
  • Qualified financial professional
  • Medical or mental-health professional
  • Law-enforcement agency
  • Government agency
  • Security provider
  • Other qualified emergency or professional resource

For suspected account compromise or financial fraud, users should promptly contact the affected financial institution or service provider.

18.Personal Responsibility for Financial Decisions

Users remain responsible for their own financial decisions.

Before taking significant financial action, users should independently verify important information and consider obtaining professional advice.

This includes decisions involving:

  • Opening or closing financial accounts
  • Borrowing substantial amounts of money
  • Repaying substantial debt
  • Investing money
  • Filing taxes
  • Purchasing insurance
  • Making major purchases
  • Entering significant contracts
  • Refinancing
  • Making substantial transfers
  • Other significant financial decisions

Student Money Mentors does not guarantee that an AI recommendation, calculation, projection, or explanation is appropriate for a user’s individual circumstances.

19.Account Security

Users are responsible for protecting their accounts.

Do not share:

  • Passwords
  • Authentication codes
  • Recovery codes
  • Session credentials
  • Private login links
  • Other account-access credentials

If you believe your Student Money Mentors account has been compromised:

  1. Change your password through the official account settings or authentication provider.
  2. End active sessions where the service provides that option.
  3. Review recent account activity.
  4. Secure any connected financial accounts if appropriate.
  5. Contact Student Money Mentors through its official support channel.
  6. Report suspected unauthorized access.

If a financial account may have been compromised, contact the relevant financial institution directly as soon as reasonably possible.

20.Security Vulnerabilities

If you discover a potential security vulnerability in Student Money Mentors:

  • Do not exploit the vulnerability against users.
  • Do not access information that you are not authorized to access.
  • Do not modify or destroy data.
  • Do not use the vulnerability to obtain credentials.
  • Do not publicly disclose sensitive vulnerability details before giving Student Money Mentors a reasonable opportunity to investigate and address the issue.

Report potential vulnerabilities through the appropriate security contact provided by Student Money Mentors.

Responsible security research helps protect the entire user community.

21.False or Abusive Reports

Reports should be submitted in good faith.

Do not knowingly submit false, fraudulent, retaliatory, or abusive reports in order to:

  • Punish another person
  • Disrupt an account
  • Manipulate moderation
  • Silence legitimate criticism
  • Create a false record
  • Obtain an improper enforcement action
  • Abuse Student Money Mentors’ reporting system

A report that turns out to be incorrect is not necessarily a violation.

The concern is intentionally submitting information that the reporter knows or reasonably understands to be false or misleading.

22.What Happens After a Report

When a report is submitted, Student Money Mentors may consider:

  • The reported content or interaction
  • Relevant surrounding context
  • Available account information
  • Previous reports
  • Applicable policies
  • Safety considerations
  • Security considerations
  • Whether immediate action is appropriate
  • Applicable legal requirements

Depending on the circumstances, Student Money Mentors may:

  • Take no action
  • Provide a warning
  • Correct or clarify information
  • Restrict a feature
  • Restrict an account
  • Suspend an account
  • Terminate an account
  • Remove access to particular features
  • Preserve relevant information
  • Conduct additional safety measures
  • Conduct additional security measures
  • Take other appropriate action

The appropriate response depends on the circumstances and available information.

23.Moderation Is Not Always Immediate

Reports may not be reviewed immediately.

Response times may vary based on:

  • Report volume
  • Severity
  • Complexity
  • Available information
  • Technical circumstances
  • Security considerations
  • Legal requirements
  • Safety considerations

A lack of immediate action does not necessarily mean that a report has been ignored.

24.No Guarantee of Enforcement

Student Money Mentors does not guarantee that every report will result in:

  • Content removal
  • An account restriction
  • Account suspension
  • Account termination
  • Correction of information
  • Disclosure of information
  • A particular moderation outcome

Decisions may depend on the available evidence, context, applicable policies, technical circumstances, and safety considerations.

25.Appeals

Where Student Money Mentors provides an appeal process, users may appeal eligible moderation, reporting, or enforcement decisions.

An appeal should explain why the user believes the decision should be reconsidered and provide relevant information that was not adequately considered.

Student Money Mentors may impose reasonable limits on:

  • Repetitive appeals
  • Abusive appeals
  • Fraudulent appeals
  • Appeals intended to overwhelm or disrupt the review process

Not every decision will necessarily be eligible for appeal.

26.Legal Requests

Student Money Mentors may respond to valid legal requests and may disclose information when required or permitted by applicable law.

This may include legally valid requests involving:

  • Court orders
  • Subpoenas
  • Search warrants
  • Emergency requests
  • Other legally valid legal processes

Student Money Mentors will handle such requests according to applicable law and its internal legal procedures.

27.Preservation of Information

When reasonably necessary for:

  • Safety
  • Security
  • Legal compliance
  • Fraud prevention
  • Enforcement
  • Investigation

Student Money Mentors may preserve relevant information for an appropriate period.

Preservation does not necessarily mean that information will remain publicly accessible or available to the reporting user.

Relevant information may include:

  • Account information
  • Reports
  • Reported interactions
  • Relevant AI content
  • Moderation records
  • Security logs
  • Other information reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose

Data retention and deletion practices are further described in the Student Money Mentors Privacy Policy and applicable data-retention policies.

28.Future Community Features

Student Money Mentors currently does not provide active user-to-user community features such as:

  • Public feeds
  • User-to-user messaging
  • Following
  • Social groups
  • Shared community spaces
  • User-to-user social interaction

If Student Money Mentors introduces these or similar features, additional community standards, reporting mechanisms, and safety controls may apply.

The company may establish feature-specific rules addressing risks associated with those features.

29.User Responsibility for Information Submitted to AI

Users should provide only information reasonably necessary for the feature they are using.

Before submitting financial information, users should consider whether it contains:

  • Passwords
  • Authentication codes
  • Financial credentials
  • Government identification numbers
  • Unnecessary account numbers
  • Private information belonging to another person
  • Other sensitive information

Users should redact unnecessary sensitive information where practical.

The fact that a feature accepts financial information does not mean that users should submit every piece of information appearing on a financial document.

30.AI Providers and Technical Changes

Student Money Mentors may change:

  • AI providers
  • AI models
  • Model-routing systems
  • Search providers
  • Document-processing systems
  • Safety systems
  • Other underlying technologies

The current AI provider configuration may include Anthropic/Claude and Google/Gemini.

Technical implementations may change as Student Money Mentors develops its services.

Material privacy or processing practices will be addressed through the applicable Privacy Policy and AI Use & AI Privacy Notice.

31.Protecting Other People's Financial Information

Do not submit another person’s sensitive financial information to Student Money Mentors unless you have an appropriate reason and authorization to do so.

Do not use Student Money Mentors to:

  • Expose another person’s financial information
  • Obtain unauthorized account information
  • Investigate another person’s finances without authorization
  • Identify someone’s financial accounts
  • Obtain another person’s credentials
  • Facilitate financial surveillance or abuse

Users should minimize third-party personal and financial information whenever possible.

32.No Financial Credential Requests

Student Money Mentors will not ask users through ordinary AI conversations to provide:

  • Banking passwords
  • Authentication codes
  • Brokerage passwords
  • Credit-card security credentials
  • Recovery codes
  • API keys
  • Other account-access secrets

If a message claiming to be from Student Money Mentors asks for such information, treat it as suspicious and report it through the official support channel.

33.Third-Party Information and Services

Student Money Mentors may provide information about financial products, services, institutions, or other third-party resources.

Information about a third party does not necessarily mean that Student Money Mentors:

  • Endorses the third party
  • Guarantees the third party
  • Has verified every claim made by the third party
  • Guarantees the third party’s financial condition
  • Guarantees the safety or suitability of a product or service

Users should independently evaluate third-party products and services before entering into a financial relationship.

34.No Guarantee of Financial Safety

Student Money Mentors cannot guarantee that users will never encounter:

  • Incorrect information
  • Financial scams
  • Fraud
  • Misleading financial claims
  • Security threats
  • Account compromise
  • Harmful financial decisions
  • Incorrect AI output
  • Inappropriate recommendations

Users remain responsible for exercising reasonable caution.

35.Reporting and Safety Are Not Financial Advice

Submitting a report does not create a professional advisory relationship.

Student Money Mentors’ investigation of a report does not mean that the company has determined:

  • That a financial claim is legally correct
  • That an investment is suitable
  • That a tax position is correct
  • That a financial product is safe
  • That a user suffered a legally compensable loss
  • That another person committed a crime

Users should seek qualified professional advice where appropriate.

36.Changes to This Policy

We may update this Safety & Reporting Policy as:

  • New features are introduced
  • AI capabilities change
  • Financial risks evolve
  • Security practices develop
  • Reporting systems change
  • Legal requirements change
  • Community features are introduced
  • Moderation practices evolve

When appropriate, we may provide notice of material changes.

The current version will be made available through Student Money Mentors.

37.Related Policies

This Safety & Reporting Policy should be read together with:

  • Student Money Mentors Terms of Service
  • Student Money Mentors Privacy Policy
  • Student Money Mentors AI Use & AI Privacy Notice
  • Student Money Mentors Community Guidelines, if applicable
  • Student Money Mentors Data Retention and Deletion Policy, if applicable
  • Other feature-specific policies

These policies collectively establish the rules and disclosures governing use of Student Money Mentors.

38.Core Safety Rule

When something goes wrong, the goal is to report it, protect your information, independently verify important financial information, and avoid escalating the situation.

Do not:

  • Retaliate
  • Provide credentials to an unverified party
  • Publish or expose sensitive financial information
  • Attempt unauthorized access
  • Fabricate evidence
  • Use AI to facilitate fraud
  • Attempt to investigate or punish another person yourself

Instead:

Protect your account → Preserve relevant evidence → Report the problem → Independently verify important information → Seek qualified help when necessary.

For immediate emergencies, do not wait for Student Money Mentors or its AI to respond. Contact the appropriate emergency, financial, security, medical, legal, or other qualified resource for your situation.

If you have questions about this policy, contact us at about@studentmoneymentors.com.
